Six Years- Really? Happy Birthday Alex!

Dear Alex, Happy Birthday To My Big Six Year Old-

Six, really?  Where does time go?  It just seems like yesterday we were teaching you to crawl.  We took you out on the grass because you didn't like how it felt so you would be required to pick up your knees.  Prior to that, you did the cutest little army crawl  I've ever seen.  You could scoot anywhere on your tummy.

I was in shock when you turned one. How can you possibly be six?  Your first year of life went so quickly.  You were so tiny at birth,  6 pounds 7 ounces, 19 inches.  But quickly you grew into a big baby boy. You've hung out at the 75th percentile on the growth charts and from the very beginning you  were all boy.  Walking at nine months, running by 12 and at 15 months you climbed out of your crib. You were fearless and you hit every milestone early and Daddy and I just ran behind and tried our best to stay up with you.

You have always had the cutest little grin.  Either a cheesy "Say Cheese" smile or a wide open laugh.  You have always been so happy.  Here you are with both smiles on your cute little face.

You've always had great hair!  And to this day, you still twirl your hair when you are going to sleep.  It is the cutest thing ever.  I always know when you are tired because you will start twirling your hair.  You've done it for as long as I can remember.  Before you had enough hair to twirl, you'd rub your hand back and forth over your soft, silky hair.  Here you are twirling your hair.  It must have been close to your nap time.  Below would be your BIG, say  "Cheese" smile.  You'd smile and say cheese at the same time and this was the end result.

The arrival of your brother did not slow you down or make you feel jealous in any way.  I was surprised because you were/are such a mama's boy that I was sure you'd struggle with sharing your time with me.  You loved Carter from the first time you met him.  You were such a big helper with him.  You were happy to get a diaper, a binky, or just love on him if needed.

You've always loved trucks, dirt, cars, blocks, all the fun boy stuff.   You still did not  know your limitations and you tried  your best to stay up with your  big sister, Hallie.

I mentioned you were a mama's boy, but I don't think I mentioned the severity of it.  You use to cry when I would shower with out you  and to this day you climb into my bed every morning to snuggle. If you oversleep and I am no longer in bed, you still cry.  Your morning snuggle with me means so much to you.  I love that you are my snuggly boy.  Below you are crying because I was showering with out you.  Look how upset you are.  Your face is bright red.  It use to break my heart.

You will take your snuggles from who ever will dish them out.  Here you are snuggling with Hallie.  You love your sister.  You always have.

In fact, tonight you are sleeping with Nadya, but last week I found you snuggled with Hallie again.  It reminded me of this picture so I had to take a new one.  See, nothing has changed. You are still my snuggly boy!

At three years old, you went through a super hero stage and loved spider-man and batman, but mostly spider-man.  You started preschool and loved it.  You met your best, friends Audran and Ryan. The three of you  were named "The Three Musketeers! You would  speak of them often at home.   You  also became a master at the computer.  You started playing on it at age two and we were so impressed with how well you could use the mouse.  You enjoyed playing the games and hated it when mom told you that you've had enough.  You still do.  You would still give us your cheesy smile every once in a while as seen in the picture on the right.  You started to play soccer and your inform drowns you!   It's adorable to watch all of you swarm for the ball.

You and your brother look so much alike.  People will often ask me if you are twins.  Especially if either of you are sitting down and you can't see the height difference.  You play so well with Carter.  You are such great brothers.

At four years old, you learned to read.  We realized you could read when you starting playing games on the computer that you had never played before and when we asked you how you knew what buttons to push you replied, "I read them".  So, I got out some basic Bob books and sure enough, you were right on the verge of reading.  You were reading basic books and with a little bit of practice you were reading everything. Your Pre-K teacher was so impressed with your reading that she took you over to the Kindergarten teacher to have you read to her. I remember you telling me about it and how proud you were.  You began to develop a love for reading, which I am happy to report you still have.  You still played with Audran and Ryan, but Mrs. Tiffany  referred to you guys as "The Three Amigos".    At four you also decided it was time for a new hair do.  You wanted a buzz cut, so we did it.  Dad and I hated it and you hated the way the gel made your hair feel, so we grew it out.  We also didn't realize what a problem short hair would create.  You couldn't twirl your hair any longer to go to sleep.  You'd ask me to sleep with you because your hair was broken.  You'd twirl my hair for a little bit and then I'd leave.  I am not sure if we will ever cut your hair off again.  At Pre-K Graduation I took this picture of the three of you.  You are still inseparable.

You spent a week with Daddy and Grandma and Grandpa on the farm in Iowa for Harvest time.  You loved it!

At five, you learned to ride your bike.  No surprises here, it was super easy for you.  We basically took off your training wheels and off you rode.  You started Kindergarten and I didn't cry.  I thought I would, but you were so excited so it made it easy for me.  You look adorable in your uniform and you love Kindergarten.

You went on your first vacation with Mom and Aunt Misty to Seattle and you loved it.  It was on this trip that you found out just how fun your Great Uncle David is and you met your Uncle Terry for the first time ever.

For Halloween you  made the cutest Harry Potter ever......
You've finally grown into your soccer uniform and you know which way to kick the ball (most of the time). You have accomplished so much in the last six years and I've only mentioned   a few.  I can only imagine what the next 6 years bring.  You simply amaze me each and every day. Happy Birthday Alex.  I love you!
Love, Mom
