New Changes For Alex

After Four years-
( wow, I  can't believe it has been four years.)
Alex  has been at his school since the first year of Preschool, when he was almost 3.
Well, after four years, we are moving him to a new school next fall.
This decision has been  tough.
Very, very tough!
He is happy, secure and loved at his school.
He has friends.
Good friends whose parents I adore.
He has excelled academy.
And he has been at a Faith based school, which I love.
But, this all comes at a price.
An expensive one.
And, Alex has tested into our school districts local Magnet School.
The kind where if you don't test and qualify in at first grade,
it's almost next to impossible to get in.
It was a really tough decision.
The kind I hate making as a parent.
Hate, hate, hate.
Luckily, Alex seems good with the decision.
He was a bit unsure at first and there were even a few tears.
Until we attended the open house at his new school.
He walked in and saw the other kids and instantly starting playing with them.

And then he saw all the computers IN the classroom.
His response?  "Awesome!"
And then he saw the books.
He is drawn to new books like a kid in a candy store.
He has to touch them, and open them up and devour them.
And so he sat, and read for a good 15 minutes while the other kids played.

And then he found a book that I've been thinking he wasn't mature enough to read.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
He didn't just find it, he started to devour it.
So much so that his teacher told him he could take it home and read it.
That was it.
He was all in.
His teacher is allowing him to read a book that his mom said no to?
(In her defense, she didn't know I was opposed to it)
I haven't read the book yet, so I was  a bit worried about the humor.
He can read it just fine, but is it really age appropriate for a six and a half  year old?
I am not sure.
I've read some sites that say for six and up and others that say nine and up.
So, there you have it.
Mixed Reviews.
Just like my feelings about moving him.
Completely Mixed.
New changes for Alex in the Fall.
I am scared, excited, and constantly second guessing my decision.
But, I keep reminding myself nothing is carved in stone.
