Karate

The boys have been begging me to sign them up for karate lessons.
I finally caved in and signed them up at a local recreation center.
It hasn't been a very good experience to say the least.
There are way too many kids in a small room and the director
continually interupts the teacher to tell the student stupid things like,
"Boys and girls, I just want to thank you for coming.  You're doing me a favor. Really."
And, "I know this is boring, but  everything you do in life is going to be boring, right parents?"
And "If you want to get really good at anything you have to keep practicing."
(I know these are good things for the kids to hear mostly and that is not my problem.
However, his continual interruptions really disrupt the flow of the class which is already difficult considering  there are about thirty students.)
Over and over again.  He literally interrupts every two to three minutes.
Needless to say, Alex is D.O.N.E.
He was done after about the first two lessons.
Carter is hanging in there and wants to continue, but I am going to be exploring other options.
Preferably something with fewer kids and a director that lets his teacher, well, teach.

I took a few pics though.  These first two pictures are taken outside because quite frankly there were too many kids so the director took some of the newer kids outside to work on technique.  That is until it started sprinkling as Carter so politely pointed out. "Excuse me, it's sprinkling."  So cute.

These were taken inside with the entire crew.  Note the director interrupting the class, yet again.
It doesn't look like a lot of kids, but it is.  I only had my point and shoot so I couldn't get  a really wide angle, but you can tell by how close the kids are standing next to each other that they do not have enough room.  (Which is not good when you are practicing kicks and punches either.)

So, we are on the hunt for a different Karate program that doesn't cost a fortune!  Any ideas????

  1. We love the "The BOMB Karate," our kids have taken on and off from Alex for about 6 years. Only problem is it is on 106000 at the Lifetime Fitness gym, and being at the gym makes it pretty pricey. He used to teach at a rec center, I would look at a couple different rec centers and see what you find.
