Carter started his first day of Kindergarten of August 18, 2010. He was just besides himself with excitement! He woke up, selected his red uniform shirt and blue shorts and quickly dressed himself. He started earlier than the rest of our crew, so it was really a treat for Carter to celebrate this day alone. When you have a bigger family, that doesn't necessarily happen often. We decided to keep Carter at the same school he has been attending since he was a toddler. Ironically enough, Carter has the same teacher he had as a toddler. She taught toddlers for a few years after coming back from taking time off while having children, so Carter was the lucky recipient of having a certified teacher for day care. A little weird to think that your Kindergarten teacher use to change your dirty diapers! Thankfully, she has nothing to worry about. Carter hasn't had an accident in well over a year. We went outside for our usual first day of school photos. Carter picked a flower for his teacher.
Sweet Boy!
We arrived at school and Carter marched in the front doors and walked straight to his classroom.
That is the beauty of keeping him where he has been for the past four years. Comfort.
He found his cubby, greeted his friends, wandered around the room and was really quite happy to be there. No tears, no fuss. (from either of us) Just like that, my baby is in Kindergarten. My- you. can't. really. be. five. years. old. baby. is in school. Full Day to Boot too! Wow.
So, the real beauty of being behind in blogging is that I can tell you that the past two weeks have been great! Carter still wakes up happy to be going to school, has really become rather independent lately. He takes care of his backpack, gets dressed, brushes his teeth, washes his hair, etc., all by himself. (He was actually "doing" his hair too, but I really had to put an end to that. A person only needs so much gel for their hair!)
At school his teacher reported that he has been great. They have a color card behavior system and he hasn't moved his card to date yet! His "Green" status is usually the first thing he tells me when I pick him up. That, and whoever didn't stay on green too. (He takes this color thing pretty seriously!)

What a cute boy, I love how big his backpack is!
ReplyDeleteThanks! He has had his backpack for a few years because he use to need his blanket, lunch, folder, etc. everyday for preschool so a big Jansport backpack worked well. It is in such good shape, I couldn't see replacing it for a smaller one. LOL! He does drown him but it is much better than when he was three!!
ReplyDelete(In which I always carried it anyway!)
