First Day of School 2008!!!!!!

First day of school for the boys was August, 20, 2008!

Alex was excited to see his friends and his old teacher, Miss Alice. Alex started Pre-Kindergarten, which is a big step at their school, Christ Lutheran, because Pre-K is upstairs with all the big kids! The Early Childhood Program (which is where he has been for two years) is downstairs and the transition to upstairs is a pretty big thing. He really enjoyed eating lunch in the lunch room with all the big kids! This is also the first time he is able to eat hot lunch so he was pretty excited about that too. When I picked him up from school he told me he had a great day. So far he is doing very well. His teacher has said great things about his first two weeks of school. His conduct folder has had excellent remarks and he has earned a star on the "Star Behavior" chart everyday! This is a big accomplishment because he has also had to give up his naps. No napping in Pre-Kindergarten, they get right down to learning. He is bringing home letter pages and practicing his handwriting. He is doing so well and he is so excited for school each morning. Hooray for Alex, we are so proud of you!!!!!

Carter was so excited all Summer long to be in Miss Alice's class. He was next door last year and so he got to spend some time in her class in the mornings and afternoons when they would combine classes for drop off and pick up times. His teacher tells me is he "Mr. Popular" and quite the "Ladies Man" as he tends to have more girl friends than boys. I wonder if it is because the girls in his class seem to be more social and Carter is very social and likes to play make believe games. Although, Maddie has been one of his best buddies since they were toddlers. They both happened to be very vocal one year olds, so they played so nicely together. We did find out that he does have to be seperated from Maddie at nap time otherwise they don't stop talking! Imagine that! Carter is such a chatter box! He is doing very well in pre school and is loving school. He is always happy to tell me all about his day. He usually always tells me he had a great day in the car on the way home and I get all the pertinent information about the day. Thanks Carter Jay for being such a happy kid!

The girls started school on Monday, August 25th 2008. I drove them to school the first day, but this year for the first time, they are taking the bus. Nadya was all decked out in Hanna Montana gear and Hallie choose some adorable shorts all covered with an extra long shirt! Silly girl!

Hallie was extra excited because she happened to get the teacher she wanted, Ms. Bruce. Plus, her best friend, Hannah, was in her class again. She is enjoying fourth grade and is doing well. She has a big task ahead of her which is to learn his multilplication facts the first term. We are practicing with flash cards. She also attends the after school program twice a week when it is her night to go to her moms. Lucky kid, she is getting the best of both worlds. Great job Hallie Cat!

Nadya was a little disappointed that she did not get Hallie's old teacher, but I think she got the better teacher for her. We loved Hallie's old teacher, but Nadya and Hallie are quite different and I think Nadya will do great with Miss Batt. Miss Batt is a great teacher and she is known for being consistent. Nadya did very well last year, but this year she is more vocal and social and there is still a lot for her to learn about being a student. I think consistency will be important. She was excited to find out that she had a few good friends in her class, but two of her best friends happened to be in another class. She is doing very well, but she is still figuring out when she can talk and when she can not. Her teacher has a card behavior system and we are working on not pulling cards. It never fails that when she does pull a card it is for talking. I guess it could be worse. Sigh....... Her reading is really improving and I think her teacher will be surprised with how well Nadya does considering she has only been here one year. The other day she wrote a page long story about a dog and I could read it just fine. There were some spelling mistakes, but it did not interfer with her story. I was so impressed. It is amazing what a year can do! Way to go Miss Mae!
