Iowa Week 2

We had baby Dane over to play a few times
while his mom sold sweet corn.
He is the smiliest baby ever!
The girls enjoyed mothering him, especially Nadya.
I enjoyed photographing him!
He is soo photogenic and his eyes are amazingly blue and bright!

The kids painted ladybug rocks for Grandma.
We found 4 or 5 acceptable bigger rocks and then
the kids kept finding little rocks and painting them until
I finally put an end to it.

We snuck in one more visit with the twins.

The boys had more farm work to do.
Alex happily went with Grandpa.
Doug had to bribe Carter with a soda.
I guess he  thought he had enough tractor time already.

We broke beans and fried fish for dinner more than once.
No one really seemed to mind except the girls.
(They are not big fans of fish, but don't tell Grandpa)

Uncle Joe and Aunt Diana dropped by for the evening.
The spoiled the kids rotten with attention.
Carter showed Uncle Joe his mad reading skills.

The kids would not let us visit Iowa
with out a trip to "The Beach!"

In the evening there was more work to be done.
The cows loved to eat our corn cobs and melon rind so we
would hop in the buggy and drive down to the pasture.
I think the kids enjoyed buggy rides just as much
(or more so) than the tractors.
All the cows come running
when they see we have treats!

Country living....
You really don't need garbage pick up when the
cows and dog serve as a garbage
disposal and you can drive your garbage
down the dirt road and burn it.

The night before we left Carter got his Birthday present.
He was soo excited to have his own counting piggy bank
with MONEY included!!!!!!
He is still saving and finally broke down and bought
himself an ice cream bar from the Ice Cream Man.

And we took one last photo with
Grandma and Grandpa before we left.

Funny Tidbit on the way home........

Wyoming has lots of these:  (You should be looking at the fence)
In an effort to keep the kids busy I asked them if they
knew what the fences were about.
They were quite curious so I asked them to take a few guesses.
Here are some that made me laugh-
Alex- Shelter for Hobos
Nadya- Farmers use them to plant straight rows.
Alex- A clothes line for homeless people.
Carter- For the sheep to jump over when you can't sleep at night. ;)
Hallie- (it's late and I can't remember so I'll ask her tomorrow)

We left Iowa at 5 A.M. and arrived in our drive way at
9:30 P.M. covering 1160 miles.
Blah, blah, blah......
Thank goodness I don't have to do that drive for another year.
